Civil War Armory

Welcome to the Civil War Armory

The purpose of this site is to inform people about weapons that were used during the Civil War. Each section goes into detail describing the  weapons that were used in the Civil War and their characteristics. The guns used during the Civil War, for both the North and the South can be broken down into several catagories.

The first catagory is handguns.  There were two major types of handguns used during the Civil War.  The Colt Revolver and the Pepperbox Revolver.  Both guns held five to seven bullets and could be fired using one hand.

The second catagory is rifles. There was one rifle used greatly during the Civil War and one rifle that was used less during the Civil War. They were the  44 Henry Rifle and the 58 Springfield Musket. There were 1.5 million 55 Spingfield rifles manufactured during the Civil War and 1,400 Henry Rifles made for the Cvil War.

The third catagory is artillary. There were three cannons that were mostly used during the Civil War. They were the 10 Pound Parrott, the 3 inch Ordance, and the 6 Pounder Smoothbore. These three cannons were used to shell the enemy from a distance.

The handgun, rifle, and long range artillary played an important part in the Civil War for both the North and the South.
